As a guinea pig owner you are responsible for caring for your pet. Your piggy's are unable to forage for their own food & water so you need to provide this. They need you to help them stay happy & healthy by keeping their cages nice & clean, bathing them monthly, giving them daily exercise, love & affection.
They also rely on you to spot any health problems... they can't speak to tell us when they feel ill so its up to us to recognise the signs. You must be prepared to take your guinea pig to a specialist vet who knows about guinea pigs in the event of illness. You should find this vet BEFORE you need them! An ordinary Cat & Dog vet is not usually suitable. Ring around & ask about experience with guinea pigs. It may be wise to Join the CCT (Cambridge Cavy Trist) or contact them (details on our links page) to find a rodentologist in your area & this is also a good place to find out the basics about care. Its well worth investing in at least 1 good quality book on guinea pigs. (List of great books coming soon)
This section is a guide to how to get the most out of your boars & give the most back. Caring for your boys in the ways described will help you ensure this as well as giving your guinea pigs the best chance of a long & happy life!
