Barmy 4 Boars Vet Sheet Campaign |
| Here at Barmy 4 Boars we decided to be proactive in trying to get better vets for the Guinea pigs of the UK. We were very unhappy with the quality of vetinary services available to us and decided it would be better to do something about it than to complain. So we created a vet information sheet that contains basic information on safe medication, various techniques and other useful information for vets. We contacted the British Association of Rodentologists who kindly allowed us to use images from their website and give details of courses they run which Vets might like to attend to improve their knowledge of Rodents. You can learn more about the sheets and download them on our Vets Page |
| What you can do: We need YOUR HELP in circulating these sheets to vetinary practices. We are asking that you print out a vet sheet and give these to your Vetinarian. WE also ask that you contact us with the name and Address of the Practice to avoid dulicates being given out. You can download the packet on our Vets Page |
Exercise Balls and Wheels |
Some websites, Ebay sellers and Pet Shops are selling Giant Exercise Wheels and Balls labeled as suitable for Guinea pigs. These are highly dangerous and can cause crippling spinal injuries to guinea pigs. Please help us to spare piggy's this suffering by e-mailing, confronting in person or writing to anyone selling these horrible contraptions and setting them straight. At the moment we are concentraiting on trying to get the manufacturer, Superpet, to change their packaging to remove the 'suitable for guinea pigs' claim. Please E-mail Superpet yourself and ask them to do this. The offending products are called the 'Roll-about Ball' and 'Giant Run around Wheel'.Or Write to them at: 2121 Touhy Avenue, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007 U.S.A. |
Left: Late hamster Dobby enjoyed his excercise ball. These things are wonderful for some rodents like Hamsters but are not suitable for Guinea pigs with their more delicate spines. Thankyou for your support. Together we can make a differance. |
|
If you have read the sad story of little Elmo (above) and seen our Beautiful Rainbow piggy (left) on our site you will know we like satins here. Click on either of their pigtures to read all about them. You may also have gathered that there are certain problems with the breed. There is a study being done into the prevalance of a condition called Osteodystrophy in Satin Guinea pigs in the United Kingdom.
