Following our tragic loss of our precious baby Elmo (you can read about it on Elmos page) our hearts were broken. Both Hugo & I were devestated. Hugo was not eating & I was just very sad that I had lost my little one so early in his life & been robbed of precious years together. A lady called Julie from Perky Pigs Stud in Doncaster, who breads satin piggys just like Elmo was read about our sad loss of Elmo's on the Squeaky pigs forum, where I am a regular member. She reached out the hand of friendship to me at this difficult time and offered me a baby boy for me & Hugo despite my harsh words on breeders in the past.
She sent me this pigture of 2 baby boht might boars she thought suitable. Shown below
We decided to take Julie up on her offer & adopt a little boar on Monday the 27th of September 2004. He would be living breathing tribute to our Elmo & hopefully help me & Hugo get over the pain of our loss.
We took Hugo through to Doncaster & let him choose which little boy we would bring home. He threatened the darkest piggy & chased him around but he didn't bother the little buff satin one bit so his decision was a loud & clear one & the little buff came home with us.
So how did Rainbow get his unusual name?
Rain & Sunshine= a Rainbow
Life is a mixture of joy & of sadness. Of Laughter & pain, of Sunshine but also of rain. As you have heard there was so much rain in my life at this time, but thankfully the sun shines again & when it does a Rainbow appears in the sky, to promise better times ahead. For this reason I called my new baby Rainbow. Since then I have seen a total of 5 rainbows after not seing any for a long time. And also, the first song played on the radion on the way home from collecting Rainbow was Eva Cassidy's version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".
The growing little one!
Above Right: At 8 weeks old Rainbow poses with one of his favorite veggie treats! He weight 1lb 2oz. Above Left: Hugo poses while Rainbow hides behind the food! (ah bless)
Above: Sadly Hugo & Rainbow have had to be seperated. They were bathed together & when put back in their quaters set upon each other. At first there was teeth rattling & Rumblestrutting which broke into a full blown fight. Before I could seperate them Hugo got a cut lip and Rainbow a bite on his ear so sadly, since blood was drawn their seperation is perminent. The boys are now living side by side, as described on our options pages.
