Bungle Bungle came into our loves after the sad loss of Zippy's friend and cage mate Georgie. Gergie was elderly and died aged six, leaving Zippy Just 2 alone. After Georgie's death zippy seemed to cope surprisingly well, especially after we moved him into the center of our set up. This meant he was surrounded by other guineas on both sides, separated from them only by a mesh dividing wall. However at two years old we felt it would be sad to see such a friendly and sociable pig live out the rest of his days without company in his cage again. So we started to think about getting him a new companion. I had my heart set on a long haired piggy, having never had one before. With a great deal of help and support from my friend Deb (Cavy Crazy Deb) I searched rescues up and down the country in search of the perfect piggy. We saw a few gorgeous piggys, but each one had already been re homed or there was a problem of some other kind. |

During my search I came across an advert on a guinea pig classifieds web site for a little black coronet boar who was looking for an extra special home from a good breeder. He was gorgeous. He had a sweet little face, shiny coat and beautiful eyes. He also had funny little white highlights in his fringe. I was in love! He, and Sally who cared for him, had really had to fight to keep him in the world! He was born a week early weighing just 60 g. He was one of 7 babies, though 5 of his siblings were still born. The mum wasn't well after the birth, so didn't even look at her babies. But Bungle and his sister thrived on being fed evaporated milk and water. |
We loved the look of Bungle and were touched by his story... and so wanted to welcome him into our family! But there was a problem... distance. Bungle was in Kent and we are in Yorkshire, there were more than 250 miles between us! Just as I was about to give up on the possibility of getting Bungle.... The very lovely Ellie (of Squeaky-Pigs and The Guinea Pig Forum) offered to drive all the way to Kent from her home near Coventry to get our Bungle! She drove a more that 7 hour round trip to collect him and he stayed the night at her house. You can see a video of him on her sofa here! (Off site link). The next morning Ellie delivered our Bungle to Birmingham where he would join our friend Kate (Corn flower Cavies- The rescue we adopted our Zippy from!) for the next leg of his journey! He stayed the night at her house and they set of to meet up with us in Doncaster the next morning. |

Moving In Finally after traveling more than 250 miles in cars, trains and buses and lodging in 2 lovely homes Bungle arrived home safely with us on Monday the 28th of August. He had taken his incredible journey in his stride, sleeping, eating and being cute the whole time. After a nap, a snack and a drink we decided to introduce baby Bungle to Zippy straight away. (We were unable to observe a quarantine period as Bungle would be too old to introduce) however Bungle and Zippy will be living away from the rest of our pigs for a few weeks for this reason and also so we can keep a close eye on them. . |
